  1. After about 10 minutes of escalating questions — and shouting, “Where is our soul? Where is our courage?” — (Rep. John) Lewis said it was time for Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to bring up some of the pending gun control bills. In the meantime, he said, he’d just take a seat. Moments later, he sat down on the floor. And so did all the other Democrats with him.

    1. John Lewis is a Warrior. He's been up against these people for most of his adult life. Sometimes, he wins. Sometimes not, but he's a person of conscience and never quits on that.

There’s a tweet out there from a reporter who was talking to Rep. Keith Ellison, when an aide came in and delivered him a message:

YOUR MOM CALLED AND WANTS YOU ON THE FLOOR!

      Awesome.

  2. I'm glad that they're finally going to these sorts of measures. Nothing normal is going to make the GOP budge from their murder-enabling stance.

    1. There's a lot of people who'll dismiss this out of hand as merely "Political Theater" *cough*Scarborough*cough*, but great Theater can move the world. Lewis knows this very well.

This kind of grand gesture is, really, all that's left to do about gun violence. Passing bills in Regular Order sure as hell hasn't gone anywhere for years and won't for the foreseeable future.

@SpeakerRyan seriously, it's time to stop tweeting for a bit.

[holding flashlight under chin] "and the periscope was coming from inside the house!"

    *paul ryan squeals*

  4. Although the 40-something white Republican congress dude on twitter that this isn't a real sit-in, not like those ones at Woolworths he's sure Lewis hasn't heard of is bad, this tweet is my fave of today: https://twitter.com/janekleeb/status/745644659083

Yes, John Lewis, you really do need to thank this white woman in Nebraska for coming up with the idea of sit-ins this past spring! Totally something she and her peers invented!

    1. Was that the guy that just said [para] to all those GOP reps. who have to raise so much money from the NRA, we say,"Our thoughts and prayers are with you." ?
eta, oh, you meant checked the list I reckon. Still a biting line, though.
