  1. My family has worked the iron mines in Ely MN for several generations. The boundary waters are beautiful, and I have enjoyed them many times. They are also HUGE. There is room to give jobs to people like my family and protect the majority of the boundary waters.

The environmentalists who want to shut down this project have no idea that the entire northern Minnesota economy is based on mining. People need to work, and we can build a mine more responsibly today than we ever could.

The environmentalists want to just have the entire area between NYC and Silicon Valley to be a national park that they can use and then go back to their ugly cities. They think everyone in the Midwest can just become tourist guides for them. Well, I have to say no way! Build the mine AND protect the environment as much as possible. The Boundry Waters are the size of some east coast states. It can be done.

If the environmentalists can't accept that, I say they should get out of their city based ivory towers and start living in the wilderness where they can have zero carbon impact all the time instead of just trying to shut down the economy of flyover country.

A continuous park between New York and California? Not a bad idea!

    1. "the entire [location's] economy is based on [drowning puppies]. People need to work…"

Also, when have those working the mines ever said "Yippee! Today I get to go back and work in the mine!"

  2. I remember when NYT comments were mostly thoughtful, and even the conservatives who posted there had some intelligent things to say. That changed around 2010. Thanks, Tea Party!
