  1. How much of a sacrifice do you expect me to make for my country? I need a $7 watery beer in a plastic cup, and I need it now!

  2. Dodger fans usually don't show up until the third inning anyways. Then they leave after the seventh to "beat the crowd"

  3. Considering…playing the national anthem before a ballgame started during WWI…and that annoying "God Bless Americia" during the 7th inning stretch after 9/11…how about no songs?

    1. I'm assuming everyone knows Woody Guthrie wrote "This Land is Your Land" to express his disgust at "God Bless America."

      ♪♫As I went walking I saw a sign there

      But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
      That side was made for you and me.

      In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
      By the relief office I seen my people;
      As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
      Is this land made for you and me?♪♫

    1. Ever see Hal Ashby's ["Bound for Glory,"] with David Carradine as Woody? It's really good and, like John Sayles' epic about coal miners organizing, ["Matewan,"] unavailable for streaming.

      Why do you suppose that is? Oh well, there're plenty of movies available about homoerotic superheroes and shit blowing up.

      1. Missed that, though I did see Matewan, which I highly recommend.

        And I don't have the heart to link to yet another fucking NYT op-ed about Trump appealing to Western PA. Come on, homies, he will not do a fucking thing for you!

        1. Let's go watch a Blake Lively (whoever the fuck she is) rom-com with plenty of product placement. Then we'll feel better!

        2. The big problem with Drumpf is that he tells quite appealing lies to the rubes. Those western PA. peeps are hearing answers to their problems- unfortunately they are bullshit answers- but to people who have been kicked in the gut for the last 30-40 years and ignored any time they complained about it, those lies sound good.

          Krugman once again [ gets it right ]

          1. Thank you for the link: I probably would have read this anyway but I've got this bookmarked. Ready to phonebank for Hillary in the 412, 724 and 878 area codes!

  4. If the singers could be persuaded to sing SSB, rather than something with a passing resemblance to it, people might show some respect.
