  1. Other members expressed confidence that Trump understands he needs to tone down his rhetoric.

“If you look at the trajectory of his unforced errors, he’s getting better,” said Rep. Bill Flores (R-Tex.). “I mean, he’s not where we want him to be, but he’s getting better.”

OK, the GOP is sounding more and more like a person who is in a relationship with an abuser, and is trying to convince herself or himself that this time really will be the last time!

    1. It occurred to me today (because I'm slow) that this is an existential test for the GOP. Do they vote for the good of the Republican party, even if the nominee is proven to be manifestly unqualified and clearly deranged or do they vote as good citizens – for someone, anyone else – for the good of the nation?

It is interesting to see who's willing to hitch their star to Der Trumpenwagen, even as it's rattling and picking up speed downhill. I don't see Trump getting any less deranged as the election season pressure mounts. When he finally does go off he's likely to take people with him.

      1. It is exactly the litmus test re: party or country first. And most of them are failing miserably…

        1. They have zero moral fiber and total disregard for most Americans. You might think, especially given their sycophantic falling in line to back a totally insane candidate for sake of blindly following party ideology, that they were less about public service and more about power and self-interest. And of course, they are also about punishing the less fortunate by diminishing at rights and services.

      2. Maybe the best part is that it isn't even clear that supporting T. is the best thing for the party anyway. That is, even those who would place party over country might be fucked as well.
Yes, be wary of predicting the demise of the whole clusterfuck, but we can dream .

    1. I'm trying to remind folks not to compare politicians to any great apes, because of what the other side's done with Hopey. I regret making such comparisons with his predecessor.
