  1. With Newton still having winds of 60 mph about 110 miles south of the border, it seems relatively likely that it will become the first Pacific storm to reach the US with tropical storm-force winds since Nora in 1997. There have been several weaker ones that brought rain, and Nora was a good bit stronger than Newton, but it's a quite rare event.

Live-blog mostly because we have multiple people in SE Arizona and maybe we'll hear from them. There has been a report of 43 mph sustained winds with a gust to 62 at Tubac, AZ, so this will go down as a tropical storm impact.

  2. Send it on to Texas when you're through with it; we can still use a little more rain. Keep the winds, though. If we have a threat of high winds I have to run around and place T-posts in the corner of all of the duck houses so they don't blow away. And they're a pain to remove afterward since we move the duck houses every day or so.

  3. 11am, and the storm has winds of 50 mph. The center is about 75 mph from the border, so should cross into AZ in about 4 hours. Still mostly a rain event though.

    1. "What’s left of Pacific Hurricane Newton is supposed to bully its way into western New Mexico’s Catron County"

Storm bullying is the worst kind. Remember, if you stand up to a bully you usually find out they're cowards. Like Katrina.

      1. Wind chill and heat index both match the absolute air temp and "real feel"! Amazing!

I try to find a wx station closer to my NV home, which is actually closer to Stewart Valley CA than to Pahrump NV, but apparently none exist.

  5. Based on the data available to us at this time, we do not think that Newton moved into southern Arizona as a tropical cyclone.

    RIP the dream
