Rep. Duncan Hunter says he doesn’t want a new federal policy to stop companies from donating tobacco products — specifically cigars — to members of the military. In a letter to the Food and Drug Administration, Hunter, R-Alpine, said he wants new administration rules clarified to better explain if tobacco manufacturers and distributors can make such donations.
“Tobacco manufacturers and distributors have long taken part in a time-honored tradition of donating tobacco products to service members, often while deployed. These donations routinely improve morale and service to relieve stress,” said Hunter, a Marine reservist.
He said he’s not concerned about the potentially deadly health problems that tobacco use causes, or the cost of caring for veterans with tobacco-related diseases.
“I don’t care. When it comes to guys overseas fighting, I don’t care,” he said.
OT: Clinton left a 9/11 event early for feeling overheated, she's now at Chelsea Clinton's apartment and fine. I mention this mostly because the Trump campaign and his fans are going to be ranting about this for the rest of the election, and as I type this it just started trending on Twitter.
The Defense Department has long tried to get service members to kick their nicotine habits.
Col Jack T. Ripper was right — war is too important to be left to the politicians.
Peace is a job killer!
It's just he seems so…apathetic?
I wonder if he's ever heard of [three on a match?]
Smokingwar kills!Thousands of soldiers used cigarettes at The Somme and at Passchendaele, comparatively few had smoking-related health problems later in life.
Also, is there any tobacco grown in Hunter's district?
There's all sorts of stuff grown in The Golden State…but if it is, I bet there isn't much tobaccy grown.
Also, vis-à-vis the headline, I propose "Gohmert's Principle" to describe the kind of policy proposal advocated by Rep Hunter.

Hillz might occasionally get overheated, but Trump will never be cool.
Karen: I've got duplicate posts with Hunter vaping, apparently trapped in moderation. Feel free to delete one.
It's interesting you use the word "trapped". Why do you say you feel "trapped" in a man's body?
An old man's body, yes.
I thought the Bayonnets were the Bayonne NJ baton team!
No joke- my old man started smoking in WWII because THE RED CROSS gave out free cigs.
There used to be 4-packs in the rations, too. Good trade bait. Non-smokers could trade them for desserts!
But they charged for ten cents for doughnuts at the Battle of the Bulge. Ask any old coot who claims to have been there.
He occupies the same House seat his dad did for 14 terms? He's a legacy! Legacies are usually asked to pledge automatically…
Cuba should donate some.
Now would be an excellent to life the embargo on Cuban cigars. And if they're truly a socialist country they'll make them affordable to boot.
You're funny. As if China makes affordable goods.
I've bought Cuban cigars in Mexico. Affordable? Not so much. Possibly not even [legit.]
BUILD THE DAMN HUMIDOR!
Of all the vices I've quit, and believe me it's a lot, the only one I miss is cigars.
Everybody else's problems are better than mine.
Never did cigars. Had two cigarettes in my life (one in Boy Scout camp). I was unimpressed.
I have an addictive personality. It's been a lifelong battle, and it's left some scars. Onward we trudge.
Indeed. We can't quit you!
What republican isn't pro-business?
I am going to stop parodying real life today because THIS MAN CANNOT BE PARODIED.
