They need this new bomber to crater the enemies airfields so the enemy can't launch aircraft to shoot down the F-35. Think I saw this in one of the attachments to Hillz' emails. Reply
Hengngh, it takes a pretty big bomb, and the bomb has to land right on the centerline of the runway, and also land centered end-to-end, lest the bad guys just use the un-cratered part. Harder than it sounds, even w/"smart" bombs. Reply

We've been able to do that since the days of hand-tossed bombs from a bi-plane.
