I think I can help answer that for you- I've known more than one person who thought the connector dictated the protocol, like an DB-9 _had_ to be a serial line, an RJ-45 _had_ to be an ethernet jack…short answer? You can't fix stupid. Cargo Cult Science is still alive and well.
