  1. Dumb Euros build their roads and towns (and garages) way too small'ly. No way to drive one of those bad boyz around here. Also, too, gasoline is about a thousand euros an ounce. But we still have particulate polluting diesel, hurray!

  2. I'm the upper-right corner of that black dot triangle in the bottom left, a Nissan Versa (Note). I suspect that they're playing fast and loose with the Smart Car stats: the engine wants premium gas (the Nissan's doesn't care) and gets grumpy when it doesn't get its way, so I don't think it can get both fewer carbon emissions and a lower TCO on the same tankful.

Back when I was car shopping in September '15 (a/k/a 37k miles ago), EV's didn't (still don't?) have the range to go the 100+ mi a day I'd need without stopping, and I have no place at home to plug one in regardless. As for the hybrids, without the now-expired tax break for them they didn't make financial sense even with $4/gal gasoline (I think my metric was "Would the difference pay for itself before I paid the note off?").

So… CVT, driving habits that piss off the people behind me, and marveling at their own driving habits.

    1. When they really tailgate me threateningly closely, I start cranking the speed control down one mile per hour until they get the idea and go around.
