  1. Who wrote this? It is not illegal to own a wolf dog in AZ. All you have to do is have them fixed and pay a little extra to register them. Also, wolf dogs are not hybrids- biology fail on that one…

      1. Yup, legal here in AZ. The link in one story went to AZ Game and Fish which is silly, as they consider any wild animal that has been bred to a domesticated one to no longer be wild and thus outside their jurisdiction. Most of the laws are county wide and administered through the local Animal Control agency. One of the interesting things is that governments would often outlaw wolf dogs based upon the mistaken belief that the rabies shot was not effective for them, something most scientists and vets scoffed at. They didn't used to be legal in my county, though even the animal control people knew that the rabies issue was nonsense and leftover government bureaucracy. Anyone who owned one simply registered it as a shepherd mix and the animal control peeps would wink and nod, if they ever even found out. In fact, a friend of mine works with them (she got me involved with their big animal adoption parties for many years) and she tried once to get them to give a wolf dog that they taken in to me. By law, they can't adopt them out, but she tried a couple backdoor angles hoping to keep this one alive. Unfortunately, they couldn't pull it off, even though the people involved would have loved to see the dog go to me rather than be put down. I don't know what sort of limitations the Humane Society in this story faces, but liability issues might have prevented them from doing the same. Had I heard about this at the time I would have tried to intervene. At least he ended up somewhere where he'll be happy, though I'm sure my boy would have liked a younger brother…
