Morning, Early.
* Load laptop, lunch, coffee and assorted gear into truck, start.
* Radio on, station has NPR feed, as usual..
* …breaking into the middle of the "1 day until election" with Cokie Roberts opining…
* Yell "COKIE FUCKING ROBERTS", reflexively, as one does.
* …grumble, ignore the radio and pull out of driveway.
* …then the terrible realization that the morning is going to get unbearably worse…
* …when you realize that – For Balance – they've decided to pair COKIE FUCKING ROBERTS
* …with… wait for it…
* Tucker Carlson. Tucker. Carlson.

Needless to say, I didn't make it to the Birth Control gaffe. Stupid NPR schedulers.
I'm so sorry. That's one of the top reasons to have satellite radio. I'll be on the road back to California in a few minutes, and I won't have to change the channel the whole way. Unless I want to. And I probably will, but not because of the Cokie and Tucker show.
Thanks, that may very well save my sanity. Of course, I could always | teach myself Heath. |
And Spanish!
Had good results w/Pimsleur? I've struggled with various means of learning Italian. Duolingo.com was the most productive so far; Rosetta Stone a total waste of money.
Yes. Pimsleur is not like Rosetta Stone. You will actually become reasonably fluent by using Pimsleur.
Interesting! Thanks! Long ago in the early days of podcasts I tried one called "Coffee Break Spanish", and it was hosted by Scots. Spanish with a Scottish brogue! ¿Donde estas mis haggis?
Impossible.
I had a 30-day free trial of satellite radio in a recent car. Didn't try it too much as there's a daunting array of stuff available, and I'm fortunate enough not to have to spend a lot of time behind the wheel. The best moment was hearing Bob Dylan reading copy about a performer whose music he was about to play and saying, "Says here ___________ is the best songwriter in America… [dramatic pause]… I musta been outa the country."
I know I should have better tolerance for these sorts of things, but usually don't have to deal with the comment stylings of COKIE until well into my drive time. To spring this on me right away, it's just cruel.
I could write her a quick note informing her of the surplus of empty shipping containers, though, if she wants to further develop this theme.
Donald Trump on Monday made a last-minute pitch to the “amazing, incredible” Latino community ….there are already millions of wonderful Latinos in the country.—C. Roberts.
This just hurt my brain. I simply can't parse what she's going on about. I always admired Cokie at least for her smarts, if not her politics, but she's gone Palin on us here.
Did you hear the bit when she was commenting on Morning Edition, her dog started barking in the background and she finally had to admit that she was literally phoning it in? It was awesome.
Best part was the telephone-recorded commenter Bob Edwards played the next week, who said, "I guess any son of a bitch can get on the radio." Pre-Wonkian snark!

It's infuriating. I can get that kind of hack commentary anywhere else but I don't, and for very good reason.
|Pimsleur language tapes| come in MP3s, perfect for listening in the car and filling one's brain with something useful and non-infuriating.

Oh I heard it, live. She could have mentioned that extermination camps would also be effective. For balance.

Hers (and Tuckers) are among those faces and voices that evince a primal hatred from deep within my soul…
The love affair you have with Cokie is one for the ages
(ducks)
See, that's the advantage to working nights: the local stations were still broadcasting BBC programming when I got home from work.

I'm not sure she even knows what she's trying to say.
Is that what Romney meant when he said "self-deportation"?
"Pre-Natal Deportation".
Got a ring to it, I think it could be Commercial.
Perhaps Trump could stand outside the polling place and shoot them, and the suvivors would still vote for him.
Build the dang sperm fence!
OT, but holy cow, | look at this tornado in Italy |
Wow, and in Italy? Quite the rare event in general, and it was caught on camera!
| There's more. | Wedge tornado, just north of Rome, F 2 or 3. Just this close to tearing a swath through the Old City, with huge casualties. Scary.
I can't imagine they'd know how to get to the safest possible place out that way since it's nowhere near as common.

Doesn't have the same sinister ring to it.
Can we all agree that God is pissed off with Italy lately?
No, it's still New Orleans he's pissed at, he's just a horrible shot.
Takes me back to '08, when she said Obama visiting Hawaii was inappropriate because it's |"too exotic."|
Polls open in GU and MP in less than two hours! Suck it, Pig Doot, NH!

Ha. There's your Driveway Moment, right there.
"Taxi for Ms. Roberts!"

Eh, | too abstract. |
[ I googled some gifs, but not gonna post 'em ]
Thanks. I stopped looking after "Andy Warhol's Frankenstein". I have my limits.
That's about the same speed that Ray Charles' bandmates said he used to play Drown in My Own Tears, in the bad old heroin days.
