      1. Got my dad, two years after the initial surgery, and when they figured it had come back, they said two months. He lasted 3 days shy of that. My younger brother and I took turns, on a weekly basis, staying with my mom to help out with his care that summer, his last. I was 24 and my younger bro was 21. My dad died at home, at least. Worst summer of my life…

Sorry about your bro. If I get that of diagnosis, I'm not going to wait, I'm going to head butt the grim reaper. Fuck that noise.

        1. My brother had regional enteritis as a kid, then Crohn's later on. He was always in a certain amount of discomfort, so he didn't think much about it until the pain got to be unbearable. Probably a good thing, he didn't have much time to fret over it. In the "good news" department, there's no direct connection to other family members getting pancreatic cancer. But yeah–if faced with it, I'd just go for a one-way walk in Death Valley. Working out there as long as I did, I saw lots of creative ways to end one's self…

          1. Good to know there's no direct connection to family members, unless you rolled snake eyes (or lucky 7?) like Jimmy Carter, everyone in his family got it, except him. Woof.

          2. And melanoma almost took him out. Lotsa folks don't give skin cancer it's due. Mine is squamous cell, which isn't as aggressive as melanoma, but it definitely metastasizes, particularly to the lungs, throat and mouth.

Got lots of victims and survivors in my immediate family.

            Eternal vigilance…

          3. indeed. I hope I take after my mom's side, they tend to live to about 100 in good health. My dad had 3 of his 7 siblings make it past 90, though.

            To your health, Biff!
