    1. I'm field testing the matter and I've discovered that it seems to be machine-specific. I commented yesterday when I was somewhere else on another machine, and I'm making this comment from my back-up laptop.

That still leaves the problem that my main laptop is allergic to WV. I have no idea why, although I did try to run a clean-up the other day, and I re-set all my Chrome extensions (I was having problems with them not all loading every time I booted up.) I think the problem started after I did that re-set, but I can't figure out why. Since then I've also cleared by cache, hoping that would solve the problem but, sadly, no, still can't comment.

Also I can't get into the comments in the backroom, although I can get in to the rest of the backroom.

If anyone has any suggestions please advise. I actually am probably going to get a new laptop in the next few months, only because mine is slowly dying and this is the time of year to take advantage of all the discounts. I've literally got tape holding the housing together on one side.

ETA: So if I'm not around until I resolve this, that's why. I really don't see much benefit in keeping two laptops open at the same time, just so I can post goat gifs.

      1. Augh, technology. Why I still buy books.

Sometimes private browsing, Noscript or ad blocking addons really mess up the functionality of sites.

Have you tried Firefox (it's free also)?

I'm def buying a new laptop to run my home office soon – I've gotten a good 7 year run out of my HP Probook but it's gotten pretty maxed out now and I'm just waiting for something awful to happen. | Tigerdirect | has some pretty good deals on new, returned, overstock and refurb machines. They have some old loss leader pigs too, so you have to know what you're looking for.

        1. I have an HP, too: a Pavillion. I haven't heard of TigerDirect, I'll check it out.

What I am thinking of doing is getting my computer through Costco, that's where I got this one many years ago. I wasn't a member for years (My computer guy bought this current one for me), but when I got my previous computer, like in 2003, I bought from Costco because they have a six-month, no-questions-asked return policy. It was a good thing, because the first computer I bought from them crapped out somehow – I don't remember exactly how right now – but it was like four-five months after I bought it. So I took it back, they gave me my money back and I got another one that I had until 2011. I finally got a Costco membership again a year ago, and I honestly had forgotten the good aspects of it.

Also, something they do online now that I don't recall them doing long ago when I was a member is that they have e-mail fliers with really amazing deals – $400 off etc., so that's what I'm keeping my eye out for.

    2. Update: well that's curiouser and curiouser. I just tried getting in on FF on my main machine and I got in. Yesterday it would not let me in in either FF or Chrome. Also that probably means it has something to do with Chrome and my futzing around with the extensions, although that doesn't explain why I couldn't get in using FF yesterday. Hm…..

That said, I have to go walk my dog so I'll BBL.

  1. If we go back to one of their older comments and upfist a bunch of times?
Reminds me when on wonkette of olde, when someone's p-score mysteriously went Down, a bunch of us would hit the thumbs-up on their comments and gradually observe their p-ness revive… God it was actually one of the worst wastes-of-anyone's time I can imagine now that I think about it~

    1. Hi, see my comment above to Karen.

And yeah, maybe a waste of time, but there are far worse ways to waste one's time. OK, maybe not…

        1. If I do that will I have to re-do all my bookmarks?

ETA: I'm typing this on FF right now. I prefer Chrome, but FF is fine, of course. I just prefer Chrome. (Beginning to slightly re-think that.)

          1. You should | export them | to your HD first, then import them after the new install. Always good to have backup. There's a cross-platform bookmark synchronizer I use called | Xmarks | that I'm happy with. You can probably do the same with all the new Google features they keep coming up with but I don't know about those.

PS: | LastPass Password Manager | is awesome and well worthwhile if you don't have something like this already.

          2. You can either export/import like C_R_Eature suggested, or if you use Chrome in more than one place you can sync your bookmarks and get them back. There is also a place inside settings>advanced settings>passwords and forms- where you can view saved passwords and you can C&P them (passwords.google.com). Inside of advanced settings there is also a button to reset Chrome to default

          3. I've done that synching when I bought my cheap but handy little Lenovo. I haven't done it since because something wierd happened with it, I can't remember what, but it was more like something that I needed to remember to take care of beforehand, the next time I do it. I think it was that it synced to my bookmarks out in the Chrome cloud, rather than what was on my main laptop, something like that. I just remember that I lost some bookmarks and that it felt like bookmark time travel.

But yes, I think if I do what Creature says above, that might get around that.

          4. I sync to my Android's and iPad's mobile Chrome that way- through the cloud to any connected devices- it's an ongoing process that keeps all my bookmarks everywhere. If you have to reset or reinstall your Chrome, make sure you snag your passwords first

  2. This one is a take from someone I've never met but is apparently my friend's boyfriend's roommate, it's still great enough to share:

At this point I'm resigned to the world ending so Trump's appointments have stopped bothering me. It's like seeing an 18th car smash into a pileup on the freeway, you start getting curious about just how bad it can get. I'm waiting for Michele Bachmann to get nominated for Secretary of the Department of Bat Shit and Closeted Husbands.
