A friend once related the story of how he joined some people in conversation at a party or some gathering and he thought the couple was discussing Friz Freleng [ a genius in his own right in the realm of cartoons ] when they were actually discussing Fritz Lang.

We have also divers strange and artificial echoes, reflecting the voice many times, and as it were tossing it: and some that give back the voice louder than it came, some shriller, and some deeper; yea, some rendering the voice differing in the letters or articulate sound from that they receive. We have also means to convey sounds in trunks and pipes, in strange lines and distances.
Probably…first knew them in Chicago 20+ years ago, then found them again here…did you encounter them in another context? (was a thing on NPR not too long ago http://www.npr.org/artists/17080698/the-handsome-… )

I can see where that could have been confusing. I'd watch the hell out of Friz Freleng's Metropolis, though.
