Update: A representative for the folks behind the Alt Lady Liberty Twitter account sent Curbed this statement:
The banner was hung today at about 12:45 PM. There were four people involved in hanging it. We have no group, but are just private citizens who feel that the principles that make America great are under attack. We wanted to send a reminder about the America we believe in.
Yeah just a few average folks who got pissed off about what a disgusting travesty a tiny band of falsely elected incompetent racist ideologues is making of the beloved core principles of their country and decided to freelance a spectacular very visible public protest.
You never – or rarely – go to local tourist attractions. It's just one of those things. I was there on a school trip as a kid and at Liberty Park in the late 90's, but that's it.
Coastal Elites, stickin' up fer yer Constitushin. Agin.
For a back-bencher, he has quite an attitude. He's from Yucca Valley, which, tiny as it is, is still bigger than the entire rest of the district, population-wise. He loves to get out to the much smaller towns where he fancies himself a bigger fish than he is. He's ruined two events I've attended, one being our Memorial Day ceremony in Big Pine. Half the attendees walked out when he started bloviating. I hope he's disinvited this year.

Obviously well financed outside agitators.
Awesome. I have _never_ visited the Stachoo of Liberty, despite living for 30 years 30 miles away.

No shit. I lived out here for 4 years before I went to Alcatraz (I later escaped)
Heh. Born and raised in The City, I've never set foot on the Rock. Rode around it once in my uncle's boat, though.
Huh. Didn't go until my sister and boys were visiting. I have to say, it was a lot more interesting than I expected.
I've seen the one in Vegas. That has to count for something.
What's the banner on that one say?
I don't know, but you shoulda seen the joint after September 11, 2001. Nevar forget!
I've been to the airport in Vegas, that's it. What's that count for?
I've never flown in or out, but it's an easy airport to pick up and drop off passengers.
How many times have we passed in the night? This is getting creepy.
Eh, I get around.
you're a man of the world
That's me. I've even been to the Channel Islands!
I went on the Staten Island Ferry and she was all scaffolded up during the mid-80's.. '84 I think? (ETA: Derp, see above.)
I'm sick of all those ferries on Staten Island. Oh, wait, I mean Fire Island.
[As seen on TV,] "my" Congrescritter.

he likes being a medium sized fish in a small pond?
Small fish, tiny pond. Gets the same salary as a real congressman, though.
Related, via C&L , Huffpuff or somewhere, but ended up in C_R_'s neighborhood. http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/news/education/…
I'm still trying to decide on what is the opposing view to the posters." Here to present the 'Fuck You! point of view is………."
"Y'know, I see a whole lotta people wavin' American flags at those political demonstrations. We gonna ban them in school too?"
Wonder if they did anything for Presidents day.
I'm with her.
green with envy
Someone had a protest sign with the image of Lady Liberty and that slogan at one of the rallies I attended. Inspiring!

Yeah I remember that. She was in scaffolding for what seemed like forever, they closed the torch observation platform because it was too corroded.
EDIT: I totally forgot Ronald Reagan shooting her with a laser. Star Wars!
"Barfly"?
Opening scene– Hip Hug Her/Booker T.!
yup
Do we know our drunken debauchery movies around here or what?
Some of the greatest lines of all time in that flick.
"It's not that I hate people, it's just I feel better…when they're not around"
…or as we like to call them, "family documentaries"
