  1. The vandalism, coming a week after a similar incident in St. Louis, prompted the Anne Frank Center to call for President Trump to make a forceful denunciation of anti-Semitic hate crimes.

"Mr. President, it's time for you to deliver a prime-time nationally televised speech, live from the Oval Office, on how you intend to combat not only #Antisemitism but also Islamophobia and other rising forms of hate," the organization posted Sunday on Twitter. "Whether or not your intention, your Presidency has given the oxygen of incitement to some of the most viciously hateful elements of our society."

Sadly, I don't think he is capable of doing this. Not even if someone else wrote the speech for him FFS.

  2. Years ago I used to live near that cemetery in University City that was vandalized, and remember seeing it in a somewhat neglected state with some overturned headstones. The neighborhood was once predominantly Jewish, but blockbusting in the 60s drove then-residents to whiter suburbs―when I lived there it was still illegal for a real estate agent to knock on your door. Which probably ought to be the law everywhere.

So when that story first appeared I was dubious. But two similar events are only one-third short of a trend. Here's hoping our present-day antisemites can restrict themselves to this modest level of vandalism and don't get more encouragement from President Bannon and his compadres.
