“It seemed to be naive,” Mr. Woolsey said about the discussion. “I didn’t put a lot of credibility in it. This is a country of legal process and a Constitution, and you don’t send out folks to haul somebody overseas.”
This is former CIA Director Woolsey, correct?
Cally, just an FYI [ I think………… not really sure what your situation was in 1996, sps, certainly not bothered by it at the time ] Anyway, this Clinton/Gore episode will probably come up in blogwars soon, so be ready……. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_United_States_…
Yeah, not a shining moment , but there's differences for sure, for one, PRC was not trying to influence an election so that they could invade Taiwan. [ I think ]
President Clinton announced in February 1997 that he thought there should be a "vigorous" and "thorough" investigation into reports that the People's Republic of China tried to direct financial contributions from overseas sources to the Democratic National Committee. The president stopped short of calling for an independent prosecutor, saying that was the decision of the Justice Department.
"[O]bviously it would be a very serious matter for the United States if any country were to attempt to funnel funds to one of our parties for any reason whatever," President Clinton said
As Maddow points out, if Woolsey was was so weirded out by Mike's (proposed) Excellent Adventure on 19 September, why did he wait until January to quit Team Trump?
