I used to work with (very nice) person who was an active Assemblies of God churchgoer. He believed that if you got sick, it meant you weren't devout enough, and he would come to work no matter how bad his colds might be, for which we were all less than grateful.
Brooks is a lapsed Mormon convert, according to W'pedia. I don't know if their, uh, unusual belief system encompasses this idea.
