I went to a Memorial Day event in Victoria BC back in 1962. There was a Soviet sub on display and available for tours. Canada City wasn't involved in our Cold War, so it was totally cool. The sailors were courteous and most spoke some English. They put cardboard over some of the more sensitive electronics, safe from prying eyes. It was a simpler time, to be sure.
