  1. “He said we shouldn’t worry about rising sea levels,” Eskridge said. “He said that ‘your island has been there for hundreds of years, and I believe your island will be there for hundreds more.’”

That's right. The President of the United States of America's learned opinion, based upon years of careful study of all the international professional science journals: peer-reviewed research including atmospheric chemistry and thermodynamic studies, insolation variance over thousands of years, paleogeologic gas analysis in arctic and antarctic ice cores, oceanic acidification balance chemistry, oceanographic uplift current and circulation studies, oceanic heat absorption rates, changing rainfall and drought patterns, shifting jet stream data, shifting animal migration times and routes, accelerating ice loss in the Arctic, the prospective collapse of the Ross Ice Shelf in the Antarctic, disappearance of glaciers worldwide, the effective extinction of 90% of all the corals in the northern Great Barrier Reef due to persistent and recurring heat shock and the increasing frequency and severity of storms worldwide.

Nah, just kidding. He's been shown a few simple memos, with pictures and bullet points and a PowerPoint by that fatuous ex-Tobacco Industry flack now Petro Whore Steven Moore, who has almost as much scientific expertise as Donald does.

Believe what you want to believe, "Ooker". Just don't come crying to FEMA and stick your hand out to the Corps for restoration funds to bail your ass out when the crabs finally drag that shitty little patch of mud and grass under the Bay. Trump's cut the budget, you know, because we can't just continue funding things that we don't think work.

Besides, that's what those bootstraps are for.

  2. From above………
“Like the president, I’m not concerned about sea level rise,” he said. “I’m on the water daily, and I just don’t see it.”
    The other day I read………….
Smith Islanders reject sea level rise with near-unanimity. Their denial isn’t founded in red-state rancor, though. They don’t blame liberal scientists. They just don’t see it.

“I don’t go to bed worrying over it,” said Eddie Somers, a native islander and president of Smith Island United, a citizen’s group. He references nearby Spring Island, a flat pad of marsh that can’t rise more than two feet above the bay: if the seas were really rising, wouldn’t they swallow Spring? Even Holland’s Island, nominally submerged, still has a few stands of hardwood trees marking it on the horizon.

    1. I live here and I see it. They just don't want to and the Industry's Mighty Wurlitzer has been telling them exactly what they want to hear since the late 80's. Their lands are doomed, 2.5 to 3 degree C. average temp. rise is baked in to the climate, sea level rise of 1.5 to 2+ meters is given in the Eastern Seaboard – greater than almost anywhere else due to Coriolis driven currents , the Arctic will be ice-free in mid-century and all kinds of merry weather hell will break loose. No one knows if and when the Greenland ice shelves will collapse but it's for damned sure they will. We're looking at a 3 Meter + surge. Hello, Venice, Manhattan.

I have no empathy anymore. they all can take a short swim off of a long, flooded pier. Because we could have saved them if we had started acting 30 years ago, instead of having to battle the very propagandists that are telling those Island villagers that Everything's Fine, It's Not Happening.

      Fuck.
