I unfortunately had to attend a parochial school for 5th and 6th grade (divorce, spite, pawn, blah. around ’83-’84.)
There was a “guest speaker”, and all 5th/6th graders had to file into the chapel. We had to hear a ‘sermon’ on backmasking, complete with audio! Of course the Beatles were featured, some Ozzy lyrics backwards, which may have actually helped interpretation, other metal bands which were targeted at the time, and…. the fucking theme song from Mr. Ed– "If you listen, you will hear “the source is Satan.” (?!) I will never forget that. So fucking bizarre.
Never much liked Led Zep. Plant's voice seems irritating, although he's certainly a skilled musician in total control of his instrument, as are the rest of them. Maybe that's why I never became a devil-worshipper: not smart enough to figure out how to play vinyl backwards.
