  1. Combine this with a prez with poor (or no) impulse control? Seems like a no brainer!

    With his m.o.:

    1. Accidentally nuke some place
    2. Deny it as fake news
    3. Sarah Sanders comes up with a cover story
    4. POTUS flat out denies cover story
    5. White House comes up with slightly more plausible story for the next time they nuke somebody
    6. Nuking becomes the "new normal"

…you're right. I have no trouble staying awake anymore

  2. For those who've never been SAC-umcised, this means bomber crews, all younger than the B-52s they fly, would live 7/24 in hardened structures near the aprons where the nuke-loaded, fully-fueled aircraft await the signal to go. It's about 17 hours by air from Kadena AB in Okinaway, but only 13.5 hours from Anderson Air Force Base on Guam. Tankers would be sent out to refuel en route, of course.

    1. I think the trainers who trained the ones who trained current B-52 pilots are probably older than the original plane. I had a short contract gig with Apple tech support and our trainer actually was a former B-52 navigator. He worked his way up: navigator evalulater and navigator trainer. I mentioned I'd heard that the planes smell of old leather, vomit, and jet fuel. He said the navigator's station had no window and was dark so it was pretty unsettling.
Imagine that B-52 carrying a load of nukes with two evil clowns at the controls. Trump and Kim Whosits.

  3. “This is yet one more step in ensuring that we’re prepared,” Gen. David Goldfein, Air Force chief of staff, said in an interview during his six-day tour of Barksdale and other U.S. Air Force bases that support the nuclear mission. “I look at it more as not planning for any specific event, but more for the reality of the global situation we find ourselves in and how we ensure we’re prepared going forward.

I am officially terrified AF FFS.
