It could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Week 17, but not other weeks, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against.

  1. Jets @ Patriots or Bears @ Vikings? I'll spend the morning toggling between the US Olympic trials and MSNBC TYVM.

Raiders @ Chargers or 49ers @ Rams? I'll spend the afternoon getting off my ass and look into streaming FFS.

    1. Errol Morris' documentary "Wormwood," about the CIA's experimental LSD program in the 50s known as MKUltra, is available on Netflix and is very good.

It's six half-hour parts and intermixes re-enactments with live interviews of the participants.

  2. Browns at Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger has to retire after this year. Right?

If only. I'd suffer a few bad seasons to get a decent QB FFS.

  3. Only watched 2½ episodes so far and can't say. So far it's focused on the son of the scientist they pitched out of a NYC hotel room, unless he committed suicide. Or there was an "accident."

Cheney and Rumsfeld make an appearance, so you know bad things did/will happen.

  4. I'm out in the unincorporated hinterlands where those burn regulations cannot reach.

I have two old non-EPA certified stoves in my house. I've never used them. I had another out in the shop that I did use, but I removed it as part of the expansion project. Gathering wood is increasingly difficult on my old bod. Turning up a thermostat is more my speed now.

  5. I spent about 10 years in landfill work. Green waste would sometimes spontaneously combust. The worst was when folks would put hot ashes in with the household trash. Those [underground fires] can burn for years. When you're operating a 110,000 lb piece of equipment on top of a fire like that, voids can open up and down you go. Happened to me, more than a few times.
