I may have mentioned before…..a History student -teacher assigned that book to a class of high-school sophs and juniors to give a sense of the ethos of late 19th century U.S. It did not go well.
Several of my forsythia have burst into bloom. Not a damned leaf on any of 'em, but they're definitely flowering. Even my Japanese quince aren't doing that yet, and they're always the first harbinger of spring.
Last year at this time, we were experiencing low 'teens. Nothing was greening or blossoming or budding. Then the snow came. That was teh suck. It wouldn't melt for a month. I'm no fan of winter, but it does make me appreciate the other season (NOT winter.)
