  1. So I watched Maharaja Shah-in-Shah's press conference today and he said "Trump" thought active-shooter drills were scaring the kids. A journo asks Shah, "So the president thinks they shouldn't have them?"

"No," Shah says. "He just thinks the name scares the kids and they ought to call them something else."

Ladies and gentlemen: your president, Donald J "Trump".

And by the way, if we're using the term "active shooter" does this imply that there is such a thing as a "passive shooter," and if so what would that be?

  2. [From WaPo's coverage of this]:

“This is pretty raw criminality,’’ said Patrick Cotter, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice in Chicago. “According to the indictment, these are two fellows on a multi-year tear of lying to every bank they could found about their income. To a federal prosecutor, it’s fairly crude. It’s extensive and bold and greedy with a capital ‘G,’ but it’s not all that sophisticated.”

Cotter said there was one hero in the tale told by the indictment – a bookkeeper who refused an alleged request by Gates to falsely inflate a revenue claim. And the lawyer noted that given the amount of money at issue, and the ages of the defendants, convictions could amount to a de facto life prison sentence.

Sure you want to serve time for Donald, boys?
