Remember when they had bars (mostly in airports I think) that attempted to simulate the teevee series "Cheers" with robotic versions of Cliff and Norm, only they couldn't call them that and Cliff wasn't a mailman?
This is slightly less scary than those places were.
I used to talk for hours with long-distance girlfriends. Astronomical phone bills. Now, of course, I have unlimited calling and I never talk to anyone. It's not a phone, it's a device.
Haha, big yuks there! That phone on the wall in the kitchen with the 20 foot cord belonged to our mother, and she was overly protective of it. If we got caught making unauthorized calls, punishment was swift and terrible. Seriously terrible. Part of why I left at 15.Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

There was one in Charlotte when I used to go through there regularly. Never saw anybody inside. The robot voices were creepy

So many great old songs referencing pay phones. Jim Croce, Chuck Berry, etc. My all-time favorite, though, is [Loan Me a Dime.]

My favorite would be Diamonds and Rust. Glasspusher's post makes me think of Sylvia's Mother.
Yes, Shel Silverstein was the 1st one covered by "etc" Must admit to having forgotten about Joan Baez' song, there.

I don't have to outrun the robots; I just have to outrun you.
