  1. Finally, while we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not Cumming) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.

    That is all.

    1. Regards carpet bombing, I not such a fan. Was flying in a deHavilland Beaver doing commo check with a source on the ground when we had to skedaddle because the B52s were coming tres soon. The concussions tossed us all around. Tossed our source to kingdom come.

      1. How does the times watch this happen and not think eugh boy we gotta do something about this

Easy… $$$ They make bank off the daily outrage, the last thing they want is to go back to a boring but competent administration where they'd have to actually have to get up off their lazy stenographer asses and some actual journalism for a change…

All the patrons in my suburban Cincinnati diner this morning were abuzz about people hurting Maureen Dowd’s feelings.

    1. Trump and people like him are so brittle because unlike the people they taunt, they have never had to build up the necessary muscles.

        1. Quick question for you and Close Read (and any other mods), does the bulk actions button for pending comments work for you? I've tried to bulk delete the pending comments in the dashboard in four different browsers on three different computers now and can't get it to work.

          1. I have tried the same thing to no avail. But it work, because otherwise, why is it there?

I googled it and yes it is supposed to work.

I have been thinking I might try it in some browser other than Chrome, but also, maybe there is some plugin that is making it not work.

          2. I've used Chrome for Mac and Win10, Safari on 2 different Macs, and MS Edge- nada. It's broken. I ripped my Chrome out of my MBP last weekend and reinstalled it (fixed what was making me unable to access wonkville w/o dying of old age waiting for it to load). Since then, I've been working under the hood in the Word Press dashboard- I've manually deleted about 4000-5000 pending comments (PITA) and IP blocked the worst offenders- one was responsible for 200-250 a day, but he only used 2 IP addresses, so he's shut down. I messaged Shy on Monday and told him we are in dire need of updating- we're on WP 4.3 and it's nagging us to upgrade to 5.2.x, plus there are a dozen updates pending. I think that's part of why things aren't working. Still waiting to hear back from him- I may pester him again next week.

          3. Thank you for deleting so many posts manually – I would do a few hundred here and there then quit, and was proud of myself for doing that many.

That would be great if Shy can update it.

          4. OK so I just now got it down below 3,000. That's all I can handle in one sitting. I'll come back later and do more.

          5. No, it's a perennial problem and I've tried numerous avenues to try to activate it. Running Chrome and Firefox in Win 7 Pro on two different machines. I was keeping up with them for a good ling while by deleting 25 – 75 SPAMs per day, but I fell out for a week and they just started to spiral out of control.

          6. It's definitely broke- I've tried it on too many machines, too many OS and browsers, even multiple IPs. I've been deleting a couple hundred with my morning coffee every day now that I'm back on, but the best thing seems to be the aggressive IP blocking I started doing. That 'Guest' guy alone was overwhelming the folder with 250-300 spam posts a day- I haven't seen one from him since I blocked the 2 IP addresses he was using. 5.188.210.xxx and 211.xxx are all Russian Federation IP addresses.

          7. I didn't even realize we could block IP addresses until you mentioned it. Today I've been clicking on the IP for anyone who isn't that "Guest" guy and there have been quite a few that have different names but the same IP, so I just hit block them. Hopefully that will help a little, too.

          8. you can filter by IP address simply by clicking on their IP address and it'll filter to list just the matching ones. At the top of the list you have an option to block that IP address, which seems to be more universal than going to settings>discussion and adding the IP address to the comment block (I believe the universal block keeps them from even viewing the site- good for DDOS attacks, whereas the comment block just stops them from commenting). Either way, you still have to manually delete them, until we get Shy to fix bulk delete.

Something interesting I am going to ask him about is cPanel, another control panel that right now only he seems to have access to. It stores all the access logs and would let us verify who has been blocked already, as well as identify any patterns that need to be addressed going forward. Try http://wonkville.net/cpanel and see if you can get in.

          9. Excellent thanks, I'll use both of these well!

Login no good on cpanel, unfortunately. Maybe Shy's locked us out on purpose so that we don't inadvertently blow up the site?

          10. Yeah, I tried disabling/enabling various layers of securely in both my machines & browsers and the IP shifting too, no go. Is it Flash based, perhaps?
Those autospam bots are awful. Fucking "Guest".

          1. My district (CA-8) is appalling! I had no idea it was so bad.
            All families: 14.8%
            All people: 18.2%
            Female head of household: 37.6%
With related children of the householder under 18 years: 48.9%
With related children of the householder under 5 years only: 56.2%

    1. I just want to say
That being chosen as this month's Miss August
Is, like, a compliment I'll remember
For as long as I can
      Right now I'm a freshman
In my fourth year at UCLA
But my goal is to become a veterinarian
      'Cause I love children

  2. Field report:

I just spent several hours making a ground turkey casserole because I have Costco ground turkey in my freezer that I want to use so I can make space in the freezer for a bag of cat kibble.

I have never bought ground turkey before, I don't like ground beef so I have no idea why I bought this.

I only make casseroles with veggies, never with meat before, and well, I did not know I should cook the turkey in a pan first. and long story short, I now have a disgusting uneatable pan of yuck that I don't even think I should feed to the dogs.

    Fun times.

    1. Oops.

I use ground turkey a lot. In spaghetti, tacos, burritos, casseroles, etc. But yeah, you should prolly pan fry it first.
