  1. At long last, that system, the Strategic Automated Command and Control System or SACCS, has dumped the floppy disk, moving to a “highly-secure solid state digital storage solution”

    Oh, wait…

"I joke with people and say it's the Air Force's oldest IT system. But it's the age that provides that security,” Rossi said in an October interview. "You can't hack something that doesn't have an IP address. It's a very unique system — it is old and it is very good."

Ahh, scary, but they'll probably end up hardening the system against attack with some judicious AI deployment…

    Uh oh.

  2. The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 2027. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug. Skynet fights back. Then the world was saved when the Zip Drive mass storage upgrade encountered the "click of death" and failed, killing the whole program.

        1. I wonder how many serial rapists they will find who wouldn't have been serial if they'd been caught when they should have.

          1. None, if they don't start looking

This doesn't correct for the past, but it may correct for the future. There is no excuse for every city not to do this

      1. you see that bridge over there? I built that, took me two months, through rain, sleet and scorching weather, but do they call me "Nielsen the bridge builder"? No!

      1. There was an attempted "lynching" nearby last week, wherein two women tried to wrest their man from the clutches of the popo. Much online hilarity ensued.

    1. Sounds like NYT deliberately maximized the number of people who will misunderstand, kind of like the page 16 "correction" (2 years later) to a year of chronic misinformation. Ink by the barrel, yadda yadda

    2. After the shit I'm seeing about Ukraine, I don't think the Russian assets in the Green or Democratic parties matter much compared to the ones in the West Wing.
