I honestly have no problem with the head of the DOE being a non-physicist and a public servant. However I do have a problem with the head of the DOE being Rick Perry.
Not exactly sure what he did, top secret shit that he wouldn't talk about. Whatever skillset he developed was transferable to work with LTV Electrosystems building the base at Pine Gap in Australia. He got hammered at the company xmas party in 1971 and rolled his car out by Uluru. Thrown from the car, and that was that. He was supposed to be going the other direction, back to Alice Springs. One of those mysteries.
Thanks. That was 45 years ago, lost my other brother in 2005 to pancreatic cancer. That was rough.
Maybe all the RF energy from mega-radars like BMEWS cooked something inside him.

I can only imagine that radars intended to detect ballistic missiles must have been putting out a lot of energy.
Trump is trolling us. I imagine the conversation went:
Trump: What was that department that Rick Perry couldn't remember the name of?
Bannon: The DOE.
Trump: I want him to head that department. (laughs uproariously) Suck it, America!

He went to Texas Agricultural & Mechanical, after all…
I bet if you asked folks on the street, 99% of them wouldn't know that the DOE mostly does the nation's nuclear stockpile.
I'm not nervous, least of all about the nukes. The only thing that'd bum me out is all the "non fossil fuel" R&D that could get cut.

Atoms consist of three different elementary particles: protons, electrons, and…
(That last one couldn't be important to the job anyway)
up quarks, down quarks and uh…
Charmed, I'm sure.
He's looking forward to serving as US Railroad Commissioner.

My brother was in SAC. I think it drove him crazy, or at least certainly to drink heavily. It killed him at age 25.
I'm sorry. Was he missile man? There's a job that would be hard on the spirit, family life and other things.

Oh man, so sorry.

what would I know about the phase diagram of carbon at high pressures and temperatures anyway?
