Bernie, I like you but this is why I'm Team Hillary. If you have to rely on the old "we'll win because we'll turn out those who don't vote" line you sound like FAR too many losing candidates I can think of…
Yes, Bernie, the views in rural states on guns might be different thanks to their different experiences with guns. What the fuck does that have to do with how we should regulate guns? And why the fuck are you losing your temper with O'Malley FFS?
It's nice to see a debate with just 5 people. A two-hour debate still gets them a lot more time per person than the 3-hour GOP debate. They actually get similar airtime over 4 debates as the GOP gets in 6.
Hillary handled the BENGHAZI!!! question pretty well, but you know the wingnuts are going to lose their shit. Can't wait for their temper tantrums over "why didn't Anderson Cooper challenge her on that!!!" to kick in…
I'm team Hillary but I'll admit she could have done better on that topic. I'm hoping that Bernie will nudge her towards the right direction on that issue.
Someone from Arizona is concerned about climate change. As a person who spent three years in godforsaken Maricopa County, that gives me hope for the future…
I hate to say this, but Sanders not having SuperPACs worries me because as nice as it sounds, he might be playing the second half of 2016 with one hand tied behind his back if he's nominated.
About time someone called them on their hypocrisy. Politically, one would have to skirt around the Defence budget, but still plenty ofother grift to shiv them with.
1. Clinton
2. O'Malley
3. Sanders
4. Chafee
5. Webb
O'Malley/Sanders could be switched around easily, Sanders is clearly #2 in viability as a candidate but O'Malley looked a bit better when just looking at the last 2 and a half hours imo.
For purposes of these debates he could do himself a favor by making some more eye contact, too, just as a matter of optics, which count for a lot in this context.
Barely. It was probably the least talked-about important topic, sadly. On the plus side, there are still three more debates before anyone even starts to vote.
I'd say 90% of the twitter discussion I saw about this debate was 1/2 mocking Chaffee for the dead dad excuse, 1/2 mocking Webb for whining about time.
Oh, I wasn't counting the Huckabee stuff. I think responses to that insanity were equal or greater in quantity than the entire debate discussion (and I follow a lot of political writers/commenters).
I had to watch this on CNN's crap Android app, since I bagged Cable.
1.) Hillz. She'd got the expertise, toughness, policy chops & experience to be Prez. Dealing with Republican assholes since '92, she knows they really are out to get her. I'd like to see her in a position to hit them back.
2.) O'Malley ahd a better night than I thought he would. Great Govenor, a little too green for nationwide office. Secretary of Energy and Irish Drinking Songs in the Clinton 45 Adninistration.
3.)Bernie. Iwant to like Bernie, but I don't think a groundswell of previously non-voters will suddenly materialize and swarm all the Republican office-holders to Work Our Will on them. Waiting for all the Young People to vote in droves for decades now. Great motivational speaker, fine policy. Secretary of Rock The Vote.
5, 6.) Chafee, Webb. Go home now. We'll call. Sometime.
Takeaway:
* Democratic Debate = 4 Michelin star Policy banquet
* Republican Debate = 16 boxes of starch packing peanuts, sprayed orange to look like Cheetos.
Good lord im tired. The Cubs are going to the World Series and I don't know what planet this is anymore
Just had the chance to read through the comments here. While I don't hate Disqus as much as some people do, I wish we were still on ID on the main Wonkette so that I could do the same there,
Oh well, at least we have this alternative outlet. Good night, everyone!
Seems like CNN won't show the debate online for free like they did with the GOP for some reason, unless I'm missing something.
It looks like it will show it here: http://www.cnn.com/specials/politics/2016-democra…
Oh, nice find, thanks. Hopefully that will get going at 8:30.
Update: CNN front page is showing it after all, they just did a really poor job of telling us about it unlike last time.
Stickying this for use as a place for discussing the debate.
Thanks–I was just going to ask about that. I'll be going back and forth between here and regular Wonkette, so I might get whiplash…
Would have made a post if we didn't get a good one that fit, but this does fine!
Jesus, this thing is going on until 8 Pacific? I may need a dinner break. Or a happy hour, depending…
OT: Cubs win! Cardinals eliminated!
I thought this was a Democratic debate: why the fuck is Jim Webb there?
They had to use the podiums they rented and he was available?
LOL scandals shot fired in the first minute, wow.
MY MOM WORKED REALLY HARD SO ELECT ME -Jim Webb
Shorter O'Malley: you don't know who the fuck I am but I have learned how to do things better than others.
Oh, what I wouldn't give for Bernie to be the questioner during the clown car debates…
Feel the Bern!
4 out of 5 bring up climate change in opening remarks. Very good.
Clinton and Sanders both came out to play tonight, this is going to be good.
You know, Bingo isn't that much fun when everyone has the same card.
CNN cards are randomized though!
Oh! Derp.
The consistency question–Hillz knew this was coming, but I think she's doing well with this "a progressive who likes to get things done" answer.
Bernie, I like you but this is why I'm Team Hillary. If you have to rely on the old "we'll win because we'll turn out those who don't vote" line you sound like FAR too many losing candidates I can think of…
Anderson's tone has been rather curt with all of the candidates. Is he jealous that he isn't moderating the clown car instead?
"I believe I am where the Democratic Party traditionally has been" – "I want to take us back 50 years. Fuck you, Jim Webb…
On the other hand, when Linc said pretty-much the same thing it was clear that he was describing what had actually happened.
What little was left of Webb's chances just flew right out the window.
NRA just got called out! About time!
Yes, Bernie, the views in rural states on guns might be different thanks to their different experiences with guns. What the fuck does that have to do with how we should regulate guns? And why the fuck are you losing your temper with O'Malley FFS?
#teamhillary
O'Malley vs Sanders shouting match on guns, wow.
Everyone is very feisty! Well, except for Webb.
He was just sulky.
Chafee, the NRA is not going to listen to you. It doesn't work that way.
It's nice to see a debate with just 5 people. A two-hour debate still gets them a lot more time per person than the 3-hour GOP debate. They actually get similar airtime over 4 debates as the GOP gets in 6.
"Worst decision in American history"
It was a bad decision, but worst in American history? There were several that were worse than that.
"Bamz asked ME to be his Sec of State, not you!"
Hee hee hee…
Shorter Webb: pay attention to ME!!!!
So in a nutshell, howzit so far?
Hillary doing a good job of playing up her experience and not being on the back foot like she has been for months.
Sanders has seemed a little off, honestly. Started off strong but he seemed a bit thrown off by the others being aggressive about their views.
O'Malley actually doing pretty well so far imo, bringing up things he did well in Maryland.
Chafee's been kind of boring. Not much to say about him.
Webb? He's looking awful, complaining about a lack of time and such but whenever he gets that time he doesn't sound good.
Thanks. That's about what I expected, unfortunately. I really want Bernie to give me more of a reason to vote for him.
I was in the kitchen, did I hear someone say that Assad invaded Syria?
Yes. Yes you did.
Wow – Anderson asked a Benghazi question and Webb deflected it to talk about Syria? This is def not a Republican debate.
Hillary handled the BENGHAZI!!! question pretty well, but you know the wingnuts are going to lose their shit. Can't wait for their temper tantrums over "why didn't Anderson Cooper challenge her on that!!!" to kick in…

Bernie Sander's seems like tpye of guy who would only resort to using force if nations squirrels kept getting at nations birdfeeders
McCarthy is the gift that keeps on giving.
"The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails!" FUCK YEAH BERNIE
I was in the kitchen. Was that what all the applause was for?
Yeah, it was incredible.
A standing ovation!
Rabble-rouser!
"Secretary Clinton, do you want to respond?"
"No."
hahaha perfect.
Black Lives Matter vs All Lives Matter. This could be a big question.
https://twitter.com/JensenClan88/status/654112649…
WELCOME TO THE DEBATE, WHERE ONLY SOME THINGS ARE MADE UP AND THE POINTS ONLY SORT OF MATTER
We need a new New Deal! Go Hillz!
This is def not like the Republican debates.
Yes! Reinstate Glass Steagall!
"Thanks," Anderson, for coop-splaining it.
Hillz is totally owning this.
Sanders and O'Malley are doing better on this banking issue than Clinton is.
I'm team Hillary but I'll admit she could have done better on that topic. I'm hoping that Bernie will nudge her towards the right direction on that issue.
Debates make me edgy. Everyone is yelling and talking over each other.
They are a bit shouty.
Jesus, Jim Webb can't answer ONE FUCKING QUESTION within the time limits, can he?
Jim Webb is the whiniest fuck ever, especially considering he's polling at like 1%.
Jim Webb is the whiniest fuck ever BECAUSE he's polling at like 1%.
Chafee just admitted to voting for something he didn't look at, oops.
That was terrible. His less-than-one-percent support just went into the negatives.
"I'd just got there, my dad had just died." really? So sorry that your dad died, but that's an amateur response not to mention a cop out.
https://twitter.com/GovMikeHuckabee/status/654114…
Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee is racist
My god. The man is a lunatic. What a creepy awful thing to say.
The fuck?
He is getting roasted for that one. Maybe not the best tweet for the father of a dog murderer to make.
Hillary: "The Republicans suck on this issue, don't they?"
I wish they got more than 15 seconds to talk about Snowden because this is way too complicated to have such a short answer.
PFTCommenter @PFTCommenter 22s22 seconds ago
Jim Webb presnts a 20-slide powerpoint he created over the break regarding the amount of time hes been allowed to speak
And then complained that he didn't have enough time to present it.
Statement of the obvious, but even the dimmest of these five are vastly more articulate and sane than the clown car.
Cooper: ?How would you be different from a 3rd Obama term?"
Hillary: "I'd be the HBIC, butches!"
Break, thank God. Time to check the ball game!
Yes, more voter turnout. California just passed automatic voter registration when people get their drivers' license.
"We're all high as fuck right now" -Anderson Cooper, basically
WTF was that joke?
"Hell, I'm high right now." – Bernie Sanders.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaiyDXKs5lc Something to watch after the debate but it fits so well
Someone from Arizona is concerned about climate change. As a person who spent three years in godforsaken Maricopa County, that gives me hope for the future…
I hate to say this, but Sanders not having SuperPACs worries me because as nice as it sounds, he might be playing the second half of 2016 with one hand tied behind his back if he's nominated.
wut?
You tell 'em, Hillz! Fuck Carly Fiorina with a chainsaw of Golden State votes!
Yes.
Clinton just destroyed the GOP and their own big government. Amazing.
She will wipe the floor with them in a head-on debate.
About time someone called them on their hypocrisy. Politically, one would have to skirt around the Defence budget, but still plenty ofother grift to shiv them with.
An hour in, CNN showed "962,000 concurrent live streams."
https://twitter.com/BenMathisLilley/status/654126…
It took me until 10:55 to get a bingo, wtf was in your card today CNN?
Shorter O'Malley: we're all better than those assholes on the other side.
Bernie's entire cheering section seems to be teenage girls if you believe that last reaction.
So, Sanders and O'Malley will get a bump, I think. Hilz stays the same. Webb and Chafee drop out tomorrow.
Not seeing much of a Sanders bump out of this, mainly because he didn't really look better than the candidates he could actually get votes away from.
Voters will see that he's not a marxist now tho.
Rankings of performances (at least from me)
1. Clinton
2. O'Malley
3. Sanders
4. Chafee
5. Webb
O'Malley/Sanders could be switched around easily, Sanders is clearly #2 in viability as a candidate but O'Malley looked a bit better when just looking at the last 2 and a half hours imo.
Bernie's got a little bit of "get off my lawn" vibe coming across.
He did seem to get agitated at some of the wrong times, especially with O'Malley. He had amazing moments but had several low points as well.
For purposes of these debates he could do himself a favor by making some more eye contact, too, just as a matter of optics, which count for a lot in this context.

Tonight Lincoln Chaffee earned himself a lifetime appointment as the go-to democrat intervew on the Sean Hannity show
Even Krauthammer said Clinton did well. Unexpected from him.
Cool.
Oh, gawd. S.E. Cupp is on CNN right now. Does she sleep there?
"I've got nowhere else to go!" — Sippy Cupp
Luckily, they haven't let her talk yet. Sadly, CNN has just cut to a focus group of 20 undecided voters. Sigh.
Sadly, I think I just heard her talk. Deeper sigh…
I think she was mostly just eye-fucking Van Jones.
Can you blame her?
Was there any immigration stuff?
Barely. It was probably the least talked-about important topic, sadly. On the plus side, there are still three more debates before anyone even starts to vote.
Yes. Picture the Republican debate statements on immigration and then imagine just the opposite.
That's true, what there was seemed to be contrasting with anything the Republicans said. Wasn't something they spent a lot of time on though.
"We don't really have a plan, but aren't we way better than the Republicans on this issue?"
Crowd: "Yay!"
How bad was Lincoln Chafee? He made Rhode Island trend worldwide on Twitter.
I'd say 90% of the twitter discussion I saw about this debate was 1/2 mocking Chaffee for the dead dad excuse, 1/2 mocking Webb for whining about time.
The other 10% was saying how awful Mike Huckabee was.
So then we're right on trend.
Oh, I wasn't counting the Huckabee stuff. I think responses to that insanity were equal or greater in quantity than the entire debate discussion (and I follow a lot of political writers/commenters).
Patton Oswalt has some words about tonight's debate: http://www.salon.com/2015/10/14/patton_oswalt_for…
Proudest enemies: Chafee – ghosts; O'Malley – excitement; Webb – neck skin; Sanders – combs; Clinton – Bill Clinton
I can't claim any of those are inaccurate.
"I think what hurt Lincoln Chafee the most was the "Feel the Chafe" slogan." heh. FOLLOW.

Dafuq? Is it because I linked to a Salon article? I won't do it again, I promise!
Did Patton Oswalt make the IntenseDebate developers mad?
Possibly.
It was the NFL clips.
Ah.
"Oswalt" is German for "Trig".
Seems legit.
I had to watch this on CNN's crap Android app, since I bagged Cable.

You're so tired you didn't notice that the Cubs still have another series to win before the World Series!
Thats pretty fucking tired, but things are all to weird now so I have faith it will happen
Plenty of time to get their fans' hopes up then break their hearts! It's the Cubs Way!
Good. that will restore my non-faith nicely.
The baseball gods are preparing the piano right now, to fall from the sky.
(You're tired. I'm sorry.)

misspellnig stuf aslo too. Thnaks.
