  1. Seems like CNN won't show the debate online for free like they did with the GOP for some reason, unless I'm missing something.

        1. Update: CNN front page is showing it after all, they just did a really poor job of telling us about it unlike last time.

    1. Thanks–I was just going to ask about that. I'll be going back and forth between here and regular Wonkette, so I might get whiplash…

  2. The consistency question–Hillz knew this was coming, but I think she's doing well with this "a progressive who likes to get things done" answer.

  3. Bernie, I like you but this is why I'm Team Hillary. If you have to rely on the old "we'll win because we'll turn out those who don't vote" line you sound like FAR too many losing candidates I can think of…

  4. Anderson's tone has been rather curt with all of the candidates. Is he jealous that he isn't moderating the clown car instead?

  5. "I believe I am where the Democratic Party traditionally has been" – "I want to take us back 50 years. Fuck you, Jim Webb…

    1. On the other hand, when Linc said pretty-much the same thing it was clear that he was describing what had actually happened.

  6. Yes, Bernie, the views in rural states on guns might be different thanks to their different experiences with guns. What the fuck does that have to do with how we should regulate guns? And why the fuck are you losing your temper with O'Malley FFS?

    #teamhillary

  7. It's nice to see a debate with just 5 people. A two-hour debate still gets them a lot more time per person than the 3-hour GOP debate. They actually get similar airtime over 4 debates as the GOP gets in 6.

  8. "Worst decision in American history"

It was a bad decision, but worst in American history? There were several that were worse than that.

    1. Hillary doing a good job of playing up her experience and not being on the back foot like she has been for months.

Sanders has seemed a little off, honestly. Started off strong but he seemed a bit thrown off by the others being aggressive about their views.

O'Malley actually doing pretty well so far imo, bringing up things he did well in Maryland.

Chafee's been kind of boring. Not much to say about him.

Webb? He's looking awful, complaining about a lack of time and such but whenever he gets that time he doesn't sound good.

      1. Thanks. That's about what I expected, unfortunately. I really want Bernie to give me more of a reason to vote for him.

  9. Wow – Anderson asked a Benghazi question and Webb deflected it to talk about Syria? This is def not a Republican debate.

  10. Hillary handled the BENGHAZI!!! question pretty well, but you know the wingnuts are going to lose their shit. Can't wait for their temper tantrums over "why didn't Anderson Cooper challenge her on that!!!" to kick in…

Bernie Sander's seems like tpye of guy who would only resort to using force if nations squirrels kept getting at nations birdfeeders

    1. I'm team Hillary but I'll admit she could have done better on that topic. I'm hoping that Bernie will nudge her towards the right direction on that issue.

  12. "I'd just got there, my dad had just died." really? So sorry that your dad died, but that's an amateur response not to mention a cop out.

  13. I wish they got more than 15 seconds to talk about Snowden because this is way too complicated to have such a short answer.

Jim Webb presnts a 20-slide powerpoint he created over the break regarding the amount of time hes been allowed to speak

  15. Someone from Arizona is concerned about climate change. As a person who spent three years in godforsaken Maricopa County, that gives me hope for the future…

  16. I hate to say this, but Sanders not having SuperPACs worries me because as nice as it sounds, he might be playing the second half of 2016 with one hand tied behind his back if he's nominated.

    1. Not seeing much of a Sanders bump out of this, mainly because he didn't really look better than the candidates he could actually get votes away from.

  17. Rankings of performances (at least from me)

    1. Clinton
    2. O'Malley
    3. Sanders
    4. Chafee
    5. Webb

O'Malley/Sanders could be switched around easily, Sanders is clearly #2 in viability as a candidate but O'Malley looked a bit better when just looking at the last 2 and a half hours imo.

      1. He did seem to get agitated at some of the wrong times, especially with O'Malley. He had amazing moments but had several low points as well.

        1. For purposes of these debates he could do himself a favor by making some more eye contact, too, just as a matter of optics, which count for a lot in this context.

Tonight Lincoln Chaffee earned himself a lifetime appointment as the go-to democrat intervew on the Sean Hannity show

    1. Barely. It was probably the least talked-about important topic, sadly. On the plus side, there are still three more debates before anyone even starts to vote.

      1. That's true, what there was seemed to be contrasting with anything the Republicans said. Wasn't something they spent a lot of time on though.

    1. I'd say 90% of the twitter discussion I saw about this debate was 1/2 mocking Chaffee for the dead dad excuse, 1/2 mocking Webb for whining about time.

        1. Oh, I wasn't counting the Huckabee stuff. I think responses to that insanity were equal or greater in quantity than the entire debate discussion (and I follow a lot of political writers/commenters).

    1. Proudest enemies: Chafee – ghosts; O'Malley – excitement; Webb – neck skin; Sanders – combs; Clinton – Bill Clinton

I can't claim any of those are inaccurate.

Dafuq? Is it because I linked to a Salon article? I won't do it again, I promise!

  20. I had to watch this on CNN's crap Android app, since I bagged Cable.

1.) Hillz. She'd got the expertise, toughness, policy chops & experience to be Prez. Dealing with Republican assholes since '92, she knows they really are out to get her. I'd like to see her in a position to hit them back.

2.) O'Malley ahd a better night than I thought he would. Great Govenor, a little too green for nationwide office. Secretary of Energy and Irish Drinking Songs in the Clinton 45 Adninistration.

3.)Bernie. Iwant to like Bernie, but I don't think a groundswell of previously non-voters will suddenly materialize and swarm all the Republican office-holders to Work Our Will on them. Waiting for all the Young People to vote in droves for decades now. Great motivational speaker, fine policy. Secretary of Rock The Vote.

5, 6.) Chafee, Webb. Go home now. We'll call. Sometime.

    Takeaway:
    * Democratic Debate = 4 Michelin star Policy banquet
    * Republican Debate = 16 boxes of starch packing peanuts, sprayed orange to look like Cheetos.

Good lord im tired. The Cubs are going to the World Series and I don't know what planet this is anymore

  21. Just had the chance to read through the comments here. While I don't hate Disqus as much as some people do, I wish we were still on ID on the main Wonkette so that I could do the same there,

Oh well, at least we have this alternative outlet. Good night, everyone!
