1. He seems like the sort of person (Jewish, New-York-raised, very smart) who would have a great sense of humor. He doesn't let it show much.

        Come to think of it, none of the candidates does.

        1. It feels like someone having fun is looked on as a bad thing in the political process anymore. It's a shame, because a sense of humor and being a good president are not exclusive. Just look at Obama!

    1. YOU THINK BERNIE STAYS THAT SLIM WHILE POUNDING WHATEVER GROSS-OUT FOOD THE LOCAL POLITICOS WANT TO CRAM DOWN HIS THROAT?I

      "HERE BERNIE, HAVE ANOTHER BREADED DEEP-FAT-FRIED GOAT GRISTLE ON A STICK. THE KAZAKHI-AMERICAN COMMUNITY WON'T VOTE FOR YOU IF YOU DON'T EAT THIS."

  1. FWIW, YMMV, Bernie is the candidate closest to my political views I've seen in my lifetime — running for any office. He's not afraid to talk about socialized economics (which we are substantially anyhow) or the bottom line fact that we spend 2-3 X's per capita what the rest of the industrialized world pays for healthcare. That being said, I'll vote and hope for him. And this little bit of satire was meh, at best.

    1. I do like his vision of a new New Deal although I am in Camp Hillz. If he does win and can enact his proposals this country will be a far better place.

      Also too our healthcare system is a disgrace.

    2. I'm totally in line w/Bernie and have donated to his campaign, but am getting discouraged that the Demos aren't coming out for the primaries. He says we need a political revolution and he's right, both houses of Congress would have to flip. But I no longer think that's a possibility and may be forced to vote/donate "strategically" in hopes that Hilz can/will win. And it would be great to have a woman president who is a Democrat and a smart, capable politician.

      The alternatives are unthinkable.

      1. IKR, anyone of those clowns in the WH would a disaster. With teabaggers or even a Ryan congress — talk about a fundamental transformation. I srsly keep my passport dusted off and je pratique mon français par jour .

      2. Same with me. I did one of those online quizzes and Bernie aligned closest with my political views and I have donated (tiny amounts) to both campaigns. But my main concern is what you say above, he may have the political will but if he can't get the job done then what's the point. Hillz can get things done. She may not be perfect and she may not get as much done as I'd like, but she knows how to deal with Capitol Hill and she'll shift the country to the left more than people give her credit for. Bernie may be overpromising.

        Also I have major concerns about the bro-ness of Bernie fans, it's so savage and exclusionary. I know Bernie has spoken out against it, but still it's a culture that persists and if his campaign can't speak more strongly to the needs of those of us (who make up the majority in this country) who are not young college students or white males then he's got a problem.

        ETA: Of course if he is the candidate I will vote Bernie and volunteer to GOTV and deal with the local brosphere like some of us have to every day anyway. Be the change, etc. Sigh.

        1. I'm probably in the minority here, but mine actually aligned a bit closer to Clinton's views than Bernie's. It was pretty close, something like 78-68? Way closer than any Republican (highest was in the low-20s lol) This is what I got:

          <img src="http://www.ontheissues.org/quizeng/map/s080_000.gif">

          Hillary:

          <img src="http://ontheissues.org/images/s080_010.gif" />

          Bernie:

          <img src="http://ontheissues.org/images/s100_000.gif" />

          1. Where is that? That's cool. I wasn't off-the-dial left either, which surprised me, but I was closer to Bernie than I expected. I wish I could remember where I saw that quiz.

          2. lol nice, an exact tie. On ISideWith I got 95% Sanders and 95% Clinton. Total toss-up.

            Somehow got 27% with Kasich. He was the highest Republican. Probably has to do with some environmental issues.

          3. I wonder how he squares that with his views on gay marriage and abortion. His brain must have a trampoline inside.

            I just clicked through to the next page on VoteMatch and found my grid:

            <img src="http://www.ontheissues.org/quizeng/map/s090_000.gif">

            ETA: Also too, I think that grid is a little misleading. Is it really "moderate" to vote down the middle on the issues as they have listed? Really that center square should say "classic conservative" and the right side should say "radical" or something like that. I get their logic, but still.

          4. Well, it would be classic conservative if this was 40 years ago, probably. Sadly, down the middle is as close as we get to "moderate" right now and there are exactly 0 presidential candidates in that square.

            Edit: Forgot to mention I looked at the graphs of older presidents. Some of the 1950s Republicans were in "Moderate" so you're right about classic conservative for sure.

          5. Ronald Reagan would have fallen maybe in the middle of this grid, far to the left of his staunch admirers.

          6. Interesting. So Regan falls right in the center of the conserv-o-sphere, and the so-called "moderate" Kasich is a crazy lefty in comparison. I'm surprised Trump doesn't fall more toward the populist end.

          7. Makes sense that Reagan would fall in the middle of their views considering how much they worship him. And Trump? I'm a bit surprised too, though he may be one who has a populist-like following but his policies don't match too much.

    3. I'm voting for Hillary though I do also like Bernie. I'd have no problem having him as president.

      I liked the site a lot just because imagining all these random things in Bernie's voice is fantastic. If anyone finds a good Hillary parody account tell me, I've been looking but haven't found one yet.

      1. I think she doesn't lend herself to the same type of humor. That |Texts from Hillary| Tumblr probably captures the humor that works for her best. Although I do wish someone would come up with something fresh that is a perfect as this Bernie one.

        1. Texts from Hillary… What a classic. Short-lived but incredible.

          I'm really hoping for something that good as well. I agree with you that something like this doesn't work with her too well, but I'm sure there's something that could be done. We just haven't figured it out yet. Come on, internet, do your thing!

    1. This might be too long for a bumper sticker but I liked this one: PEACOCKS ARE TURKEYS WHO ANTICIPATED SOMETHING LIKE THANKSGIVING AND CAME UP WITH A GAME PLAN

          1. NPR interviewed the guy who does this account and it was hilarious. He is between jobs and living with his parents and he doesn't have a lot on his schedule so his life revolves largely around the food his mom makes. I have a feeling he wont be between jobs for long.
