        1. The joke name for the CMC is Constantly Making Cyclones, so maybe it's the addition of chemtrails that makes them so different!

          1. Hah! Also, with that article, it isn't like the GFS totally sucks- what, you're looking at a difference between .857 and .905. I bet each has its strengths and weaknesses

          2. It feels like we have a top 4 when it comes to global models at this point. That being said, we still need to improve the GFS so it doesn't get to the point that it's way behind.

Actually, things like the NAM and HRRR are pretty good for very short-term (like 12 hours) situations like for severe weather outbreaks. NAM's pretty good for medium-range winter weather as well. Just don't try to bring it out in the tropics!

The watch is up. They actually bring up the word derecho, which means it could be particularly nasty.

    PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE…
    A COUPLE TORNADOES POSSIBLE
WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS LIKELY WITH ISOLATED SIGNIFICANT GUSTS
    TO 80 MPH POSSIBLE
ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

    1. 2-3am? Maybe 4? I bet most people around here will be woken up when this blows through.

I want to keep watch but it's so late and I got up so early that I might end up falling asleep well before that.

        1. Thankfully, no. There is a large tree that would be able to hit the other side of the house though.

Let's be honest, I'll fall asleep before the storms get here and either wake up when they hit or wake up a little before by chance and catch it then.

  2. Okay, big storm report. It was, unsurprisingly, quite nasty around here. We did not lose a tree… in our yard, but there was a neighbor who had a large tree literally snapped in half. Luckily, trees were the only damage in this neighborhood. Some other areas were not so lucky.

We probably had winds of about 75 mph where I was. The worst was this big burst near Wilmington about an hour later, where radar winds showed 111 mph 300 feet above the surface! Not sure how much of that mixed all the way to the ground but from the damage reports I'm assuming it is "a lot".

  3. Meanwhile, might have another round of storms today, though not as bad. Instability's crazy high though.

    Temperature: 85
    Dew Point: 78
    Heat Index: 97
