I have a friend who comes to my house every few months to help with chores that I can’t do by myself. He was here yesterday, he said, “notice how I’m here on a Saturday, in the fall?” His dad died about six months ago, was in his late 80s, and he had always been very controlling – expected my friend to be at his house every Saturday to watch football, no excuses.
Wow, good for your friend, I hope! My mom's mom had issues and tried to pass them on to my mom, but my grandmother lived to just short of 100 and she and my mom were able to reconcile and forgive along the way. My mom said "it took until I was 67, but I finally got an apology!".
