  1. So was visiting some [ not terribly close, but lib ] friends today and they asked, 'So where do you hang -out on the blogs?"
So I googled the 'ville up on their computer. This post filled the screen. They then exhibited classic WTF?! expressions.
So I went to the 'ette home. They said ,"Oh yeah, but what is Wonkville" I told them it's the part of the Wonkette empire where people can post things like "Is Spark Controlled Ignition a Thing or Just the Latest Wankel? '
They decided not to pursue this topic.

    1. And that's the way we like it. Nothing's off topic, because everything's off topic.

BTW, I subscribed to the Tidal music streaming service a coupla days ago. Holy crap, every obscure musician and group you could ever imagine is out there, just waiting to be listened to in pretty high quality recordings. It's bewildering, wonderful.

      1. So what are they doing? Of course I went right to the blues section; Bessie Smith recording didn't sound different. .
Is this like Neil Young PONO?

        1. It's a streaming service like Pandora, but costs $20/month.

The service has over 48.5 million tracks and 175,000 music videos. Tidal claims to pay the highest percentage of royalties to music artists and songwriters within the music streaming market, while offering two levels of digital music streaming service: Tidal Premium (lossy quality) and Tidal HiFi (lossless CD quality – FLAC-based 16-Bit/44.1 kHz – and MQA). Tidal was launched in 2014 by Norwegian public company Aspiro. It has distribution agreements with all of the three major labels, in addition to many indies.

I'm an audio nerd so this matters to me; it may not to you. Of course if the old recordings are rough they still sound rough on Tidal. MQA ("master quality authenticated") is the latest and greatest scheme for delivering higher quality audio in smaller digital packages.

          1. Okay. No, that's all great, I just wasn't sure if they were getting better at packing more data or doing something extra. I never could afford being a -phile, though you know I hang with some.

    2. Fortunately, this part of the Wonkette empire isn't along any major trade routes and doesn't have any exploitable mineral wealth to speak of.

          1. Yeah, I reckon one *ouke*, poop, goat, cephalopod is no big deal, looking back at all of them might cause concern.

  2. That's your next project. Or , if not, get going on making that Peltier cooling thingy more efficient. It might be a biggy in the near future. People have to keep their wine cool, but in a socially responsible way. .
