This is the same guy that criticized President Obama for NOT visiting Baton Rouge, LA, despite the fact that the Governor of LA asked him to wait. I know that inconsistency, duplicity, and lying are not unusual for President Trump, but surely the TPM does not have long term memory issues.
“More people die here than anywhere else from floods,” said Sam Brody, a Texas A&M University at Galveston researcher who specializes in natural hazards mitigation. “More property per capita is lost here. And the problem’s getting worse.”
Scientists, other experts and federal officials say Houston's explosive growth is largely to blame. As millions have flocked to the metropolitan area in recent decades, local officials have largely snubbed stricter building regulations, allowing developers to pave over crucial acres of prairie land that once absorbed huge amounts of rainwater. That has led to an excess of floodwater during storms that chokes the city’s vast bayou network, drainage systems and two huge federally owned reservoirs, endangering many nearby homes
I really think this whole "President travels to site of disaster to utter comforting words into the camera" thing has turned into another meaningless, flag-on-the-lapel exercise, whoever the president of the moment may be.
Painful as it is to say it, Trump's right, in that his visit would just give officials more stuff to do, block up the airport for hours (if they have one functioning), jam the highways with his motorcade, etc. But ever since Bush conducted his aerial reconnaissance of Katrina, everybody's had to be more careful.
Internet just now came back. We have great drainage; very sandy soil and are higher than surrounding areas. We got 10.5" of rain but just south and east of us people got twice that amount. We lost 6 ducks to stress and chills due to cooler temps. No real damage.
President Donald Trump on Sunday said he will visit Texas…as soon as he could do so “without causing disruption.”
So, never?
No mention of poop or chickens

From the Twitter, La Vita Bella Nursing Home in Dickinson TX: <img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIPbU__UMAEs9zb.jpg">This is really terrible.<img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIPdxZlV4AAerpy.jpg"/>
And why is that, |Pro Publica and Texas Tribune?|
No one could have predicted…"Profiteers determined to strike in U.S."
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway," she said, "so this is working very well for them."
7.5" of rain for us, a few limbs down, nothing else. Internet is sporadic. Houston is getting the shit kicked out of it.
All tornadoes have been just outside of Houston. 8.5" of rain here and more coming down.
This would be terrible even with steady leadership. We're currently lacking that. I worry about just how many people will end up dead.
heavy rain bands in LA and Miss now. Tornado warning western LA.
People in Nursing home rescued!!!! http://www.galvnews.com/news/free/article_e1ffff8…
[ ya know, there was a part of me hoping that that scene was just some major asshole with Pshop ]
Also: Flooding disrupts newspaper delivery
One small thing to be thankful for.
There are no Trump properties in Texas, so he can only make a one-day visit.
/snark off

Friends in Sanibel-Captiva area say it's hammering them too.
The sun is out now and the rains have stopped at the farm. We won't hit 90 degrees again until this Saturday. We had been over 100 before the storm.
hey weej, do you ever get east to Methow Valley/Twisp/Winthrop area?
Those of us who still have 'em, yes.
It's okay, he's white.
It was cloudy and cool here until about 2:00 PM, so we're suffering too.
Coastal liberal elitist intellectual.
Junk science!
Thought you mentioned that. You have mail.
Those coastal dwellers don't want your sympathy. They want your money. And by fuck, they'll get it. In the form of federal disaster relief.
