1. The scientists noted that the concentrations found in the wastewater don’t pose risks to the environment, and wide-scale recovery wouldn’t be worthwhile. But, they did find that there were some sites where recovery of the gold could be viable, like in the refinery-rich Ticino region where concentrations of the precious metal were likely high enough to justify the extraction effort and cost.

1. Makes me wonder what form the gold is in. Au⁺³? That's gotta be easy to refine. The silver might be a bit more difficult, but the only time I know of when gold's been harmful to the environment is when people mine it.

Also-OT- the weather underground continues dumbing down to the point of worthlessness

1. Mmm…arsenic…mmmm…..Hey, you know where they have really sparkling clean water? At the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Take a look! <img src="http://i66.tinypic.com/kbemuo.jpg"> This is from the "Aw, fuckit, we'll never clean up this mess, so let's call it a wildlife refuge" collection of National Wildlife Refuges.

2. Wedding rings?

Ever since Wunderground got bought by The Weather Channel it's been downhill. At least it's not AccuWeather. They do a nice job of hosting my weather station's webpage, so there's that.

1. Yeah, the weather stations and the wundermap are the only reason I'm sticking around at this point. Pretty pathetic when the full size page on a desktop doesn't show humidity/dewpoint/barometric pressure. WTF?

1. I cut out the middle man and dug up the phone number for the weather robot at the Bay Bridge Airport (W29).

2. OT- another fun smoke-filled day here, guess I'll rake the yard, again, because the alternative would be far worse:

…ANOTHER ROUND OF GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS TO IMPACT PART OF OUR
REGION STARTING LATER TODAY…

…VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR THE NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS AND EAST BAY
HILLS STARTING THIS EVENING…

1. Ayup, that'd be your standard Red Flag Warning. I just got back from a trip to the hardware store for better indoor air filters. I saw at least 4 fire trucks on the trip, they're probably just making sure folks are in compliance with keeping their yards clean. Saw several people walking with scarves or their sweaters pulled up over their faces, as if that would help. This smoke gives me a headache, that's why I'm staying inside and keeping what air I have in the house squeaky clean.

1. I'm a few miles south of where the Oakland Firestorm of 1991 was, but that doesn't give me any comfort. I'm going to rake up my yard again today…

3. I always figured it would pay to have a trap downstream of certain businesses, such as dentists. I don't know how much gold or silver they use anymore, though.
