  1. Grumpy Cat’s visage was named the Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, beating out “Gangnam Style” and “Harlem Shake.” Many memes come and go, but her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, turned the cat’s face into the center of a thriving business.

Her likeness appeared on nearly 900 items in an official shop, she made a television advertisement for “Honey Nut Cheerios,” and she became the official “spokescat” of Friskies, a cat food brand. The cat starred in a Lifetime Christmas movie, “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever,” she was on the cover of New York Magazine, and her book hit No. 7 on The New York Times’s advice, how-to and miscellaneous best-seller list.

Estimates ranged widely on how much Grumpy Cat was worth, though Ms. Bundesen disputed a 2014 report that the cat had earned her $100 million. In 2018, Ms. Bundesen won $710,000 in a copyright infringement suit against a coffee company that made Grumpy Cat Grumppuccino.

    1. A guy named Leone has been pitching for the Cardinals this season, occasionally he's been good, but more usually bad or ugly.

          1. Got a message from a friend at Mammoth Mountain this morning: knee-deep powder. Historically, it's not that unusual. I don't have to like it, though.

I'll be [here] instead. Maybe, if it's not too cold and windy. A semi got blown over yesterday afternoon.

          2. Manzanar airfield! Is that the same town that hosted the rustic all expenses paid sleepaway camp for Americans of Japanese descent during WW II?

          3. Yes. The airfield was built in the 30s for military exercises. The relocation camp of the same name is directly across the highway.

The name Manzanar has to do with apples. Before it was repurposed, it was all apple orchards. I have two trees from those cultivars. One of them produces really tasty apples. The other one has been a bust. This year, maybe.

        1. Whoa. For some reason my phone wouldn't connect. Those are some longboards for sure. I get looks since I'm 5'-6" and ski on 195s. They're shaped skis, but a lot longer than ones guys north of 6' ski on today. Heck, used to ski 210s when racing, but that was a thousand years ago.

          1. I was 6'4", and the old method of measuring for skis was to extend your arm and measure to the break of your wrist. For me, that meant at least 215cm, so that's what I learned on. Most of my time on skis was spent on either 210s or 207s. I wish I still had my "Short Skis Suck" sticker.

  2. Dern. I thought maybe the home ISP would still work, but it don't.
Have three quickies waiting. No tunes.

    1. The only two female characters that appear [ in Moby Dick ] are two servants, namely Mrs. Hussey and Aunt Charity, Captain Bildad’s sister.
