I'm sure NBC management tried hard to find a more qualified journalist, they even considered a few females and persons of color, but ultimately decided the public would prefer another fatuous white male face-licker.
They haven't even started asking questions yet, but I can already tell that the atmosphere in the room is calmer and more rational than the atmosphere in the GOP debates.
Agreed. I read something recently, I didn't realize that something like 19 states have passed resolutions condemning Citizens United. The gist of the article was that there's enough movement on the state level nationwide to show it's within reach to have a constitutional amendment to overthrow it, if we can just get Congress behind it.
Bernie is right to call out the presence of criminal records for those with marijuana and the absence of them among Wall Street lackeys. Let him finish, dammit…
Bernie didn't hear the question the first time around? Wonder if M O'M will try to use that in some covert way to point to how old Sanders is in comparison?
Bern and Hilz are talking at cross purposes. Bernie should be saying that his administration would keep the ACA in place until his Medicare for all gets implemented. And Hilz knows that, she's just equivocating, which never looks good on her.
Good for Bernie, he finally said that we won't tear up the ACA. Also that thing that M O'M is now talking about, paying based on quality, is indeed a thing and it's already starting nationwide.
Hilary really needs to get off that "let's not start over again" thing. It's only a thing she's doing to take shots at Sanders. I don't think it will serve her well.
I'll agree that Hillz should back off here, but I want to see the details on what Bern is calling for. (I heard they were released today, so I'll look into that later.)
I do too. For one thing, he's got to bake in a way for employers to guarantee that they'll pass on to employees the savings from employers not having to pay for health insurance. I want to hear that baked into his plan.
BTW, about this issue of Hillz' contributors, I say she should take the modern version of Jesse Unruh's classic take:
If you can't eat their food, drink their booze, screw their lobbyists, take their money and then vote against them you've got no business being up here
Jesus…I'm with Bern on a lot of the substantive issues even though I'm Team Hillary, but this hoarse voice is all a lot of people will remember. Get to a voice doc, stat…
He should wear a buzzer bracelet, so that his minders can reminder-buzz him when he gets too shouty.
I'm with him too on a lot of his platform, even though I'm team Hilz. My concern is I don't understand how his campaign lets shouty dudebros dominate his camp. Even if they're lefty dudebros they're still dudebros and I see them all over the Internet and here in my town, who shut down/shout down people who disagree with them. I have enough of that to deal with in everyday life, I can't get behind a campaign that's OK with not doing more to tamp that down and be more inclusive.
Good for M O'M re "Boots on the Ground." Same with journalists and politicians using the term "troops." It conveniently depersonalizes the reality. I wish they'd say "Soldiers." Marshall McLuhan is prolly rolling in his grave.
Note: the pre-game commentary has already started. It's on YouTube!
I know some of you don't do the cable thing, so you can watch it on Youtube or on anything with an NBC News app (phone/tablet/Roku/Fire/Apple TV)/

I love it when The Hillz pulls out her magic lasso and makes everyone tell the truth.

Love it!
Chuck Todd…Christ, I hope I'll be able to cope. Who the fuck decided to make him a thing?
I'm sure NBC management tried hard to find a more qualified journalist, they even considered a few females and persons of color, but ultimately decided the public would prefer another fatuous white male face-licker.
Do we need Chuck Todd masks?

I think I might still have a Mirror Universe Spock beard from an old Halloween.
Why no liveblog on regular wonkette?
Well, kinda: http://wonkette.com/597963/join-wonkette-for-anot…
My comment below links to it.
Chat is disabled for this live stream.
Probably just as well.
I misread that as Chuck is disabled for this live stream.
PSA:
Wonkette is doing a live-blog after all. Just when I thought I wouldn't have to toggle between there and here…
If trix allowed comments over there, of course.
Andrea Mitchell: "Secretary Clinton, Senator Sanders, who are you wearing this evening?"
Chuck pauses too long before he speaks. It sounds too obviously like he's relying on the producer prompting in his ear.
ETA: He also doesn't seem to have any eyelashes.
Is this the real life?
~
I see I still have 122p. Not collecting any interest, harrumph!

HYDRATE, HILLZ!
They haven't even started asking questions yet, but I can already tell that the atmosphere in the room is calmer and more rational than the atmosphere in the GOP debates.

I'm with Bern when it comes to campaign finance reform. I wish to fuck I saw a path to achieving that goal.
Agreed. I read something recently, I didn't realize that something like 19 states have passed resolutions condemning Citizens United. The gist of the article was that there's enough movement on the state level nationwide to show it's within reach to have a constitutional amendment to overthrow it, if we can just get Congress behind it.
We need new leadership = it's a good thing you don't know who the fuck I am!
M O'M
Glad to hear the loud cheers for equal pay. I don't want to think about the reaction that would get in a GOP debate audience…
<img src="https://41.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1nw73qUY01qeht8po1_500.jpg" width="319" height="306" />
Oh God, they went straight for the gun issue. Bracing myself for the infighting as I type this…
The look in Hillz' eyes as Bern explains himself on guns–this will get worse before it gets better…
M O'M: Clinton and Sanders both suck on guns. Vote for me.
OH BOY–Hillz called out the systemic racism in the criminal justice system. Can't wait to hear the deleted commenters go off on that…
Bernie is right to call out the presence of criminal records for those with marijuana and the absence of them among Wall Street lackeys. Let him finish, dammit…
Lester Holt seems to have a strategy of shutting them all up by talking over them. Stop that, Lester, figure out a different strategy.
Fucking computer froze before I could rant about the media asking about the polls before the economy or foreign policy. Fuck Lester Holt…
Oh noz! Bernie couldn't hear the question! He's old! INPEECH!
Bernie didn't hear the question the first time around? Wonder if M O'M will try to use that in some covert way to point to how old Sanders is in comparison?
Yes, Hilz, treat drug as a public health issue.
Move away from drug use as a crime and towards it as a health issue. Go Hillz!
M O'M: Just ten seconds!
Lester Holt: Be right back!
Hey, an ad for clean energy from Tom Steyer. Didn't see anything like this during the GOP freak show…
On to the health care infighting question…
Bern is ready to pounce on Hillz the moment he gets the chance. Oh boy…
Bern and Hilz are talking at cross purposes. Bernie should be saying that his administration would keep the ACA in place until his Medicare for all gets implemented. And Hilz knows that, she's just equivocating, which never looks good on her.
This all sounds good, Bernie. Now tell us how you're paying for it (IDK why he's putting that off…)
Good for Bernie, he finally said that we won't tear up the ACA. Also that thing that M O'M is now talking about, paying based on quality, is indeed a thing and it's already starting nationwide.

M O'M: I want in on this.
Andrea Mitchell: We have to continue the Hillz – Bern catfight!
So M O'M isn't going to be allowed to say anything about health care? Fuck, I feel sorry for him…
Bernie is sounding raspy. Someone get him a lozenge!
M O'M: we need to heal the infighting.
Sorry, M O'M, but I'm not ready to make nice with the GOP until their extremists are effectively shut the fuck down.
Ooooh, a question from a vlogger! Really, NBC?! Really?!
Better than from Chuck Todd.
True, this evening is turning out to be pleasantly Todd-free.
I don't like watching debates. Everyone is so shouty. Can't we all just get along?
BTW, about this issue of Hillz' contributors, I say she should take the modern version of Jesse Unruh's classic take:
Listen up, Hillz…
Jesus…I'm with Bern on a lot of the substantive issues even though I'm Team Hillary, but this hoarse voice is all a lot of people will remember. Get to a voice doc, stat…
He should wear a buzzer bracelet, so that his minders can reminder-buzz him when he gets too shouty.

OT: Snow Octopus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heLRE3LVzq4
Native to the glaciers of eastern Greenland!
I was wondering when Hillz was going to get to "I've documented how I'll pay for everything." Not sure why she waited this long…
CARTOONS!
Youth!
(You could tell it was for The Youths by the crude, casual animation style.)
"we actually believe in science"
Nice one, M O'M.
An anti-immigration ad on a Democratic debate? FUCK you, Numbers USA…
"We've seen some sharp exchanges"
Yeah, Chuck, and your moderators leading questions didn't play a role in provoking those at all!!!
OK, I have to get dinner together so you'll have to pick up the FFS moments for me for a bit. BRB…
Haha, I'm about to start making some lemon square thingies.
If this were the GOP debate discussing Iran, boy oh boy would the responses be different.
"Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran…"
Good for M O'M re "Boots on the Ground." Same with journalists and politicians using the term "troops." It conveniently depersonalizes the reality. I wish they'd say "Soldiers." Marshall McLuhan is prolly rolling in his grave.
Of course they waited until my hands were full to get to substantive foreign policy issues. Fuck.
Lester, as long as you are asking about domestic terrorism, how about those abortion clinic bombers and those assholes in Oregon?
Good answer from Hilz at least.
YES! Bust the GOP's balls over the Muslim-bashing, Hillz!
Interesting that not nearly as any funny comments on Twitter as on the GOP debate.
"Secretary Clinton, exactly how will your husband boss you around?"
/FFS
Of COURSE they had to go to Bill's sex life. Fuck you, Andrea Mitchell…
Lester Holt: Before we leave, can we get any more infighting from you all?
Hillz brought up the Flint water issue! Yes!
UGH…Chuck Todd? I want Rachel!
Gah, Fuck Toad!
Well. That was…ordinary.
Well, I think we've learned a lot.
